Second Take: Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Legend

September 8, 2008

Jeff did a fantastic job with his Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Legend Review, but I thought I’d add my thoughts on this cigar as well. It isn’t a full review, but more of adding my thoughts on this cigar.

This is the newest release from Hoyo de Monterrey. It is called the Legend, and it comes in three sizes: the Challenger – 5.25 x 50; the Conqueror – 6.25 x 54; and the Crusader – 5.75 x 46. The legend was introduced at the 2008 ICPCR trade show in Las Vegas.

Alec Bradley Tempus – Cigar Links Edition 19

August 29, 2008

Well it has been awhile since I’ve done a cigar links wrap up so I thought I’d resurrect it for one of my favorite new cigars to come out this year. Originally I got to try the Alec Bradley Tempus just before it was released and really enjoyed it. My local shop recently picked up the Tempus and I got a chance to try the Lancero.

Cigar Review: Gurkha G5 Avenger Toro

August 4, 2008

Gurkha G5 Avenger Toro Cigar Review

In the past I’ve only reviewed a couple cigars from Gurkha. A couple of reasons for that. One, their price point is a bit higher than what I like to reach for in my budget. Two, I’ve just never really enjoyed the Gurkha flavor profile. This isn’t to say they are not a good cigar; I just don’t care for it. So here is my take on the Gurkha G5 Avenger.

Cigar Review: Rocky Patel Old World Reserve Corojo Robusto

Rocky Patel Old World Reserve Corojo Cigar Review

I wasn’t quite sure how to introduce this line—after all, who in the Cigar world hasn’t heard of Rocky Patel?  Turns out this was solved for me when I stopped by my local cigar shop last week, and who did I run into but—Rocky Patel!  I shook his hand and mentioned to him that this was my favorite cigar in his line.  Turns out, he agrees with me.  I don’t know what better testimony you can get than that.

Cigar Review: Cuvée 151 Robusto

July 29, 2008

Cuvee 151 Robusto Cigar Review

I first tried this cigar a few months ago when I got it in a sampler. Every once and awhile I’d pick up a couple meaning to review them, but I’d always end up smoking them without writing up a review. Well this weekend I picked up a few of them and decided I can’t smoke anything else until I finally get this review written. The Cuvee line is made by Cusano Cigars and takes its name from the highest proof of alcohol sold in the United States. It was intended to be released in 2007, but the Chiusanos were not happy with the blend so it was reblended and now readily available.

Cigar Review: CAO LX2 Robusto

July 21, 2008

CAO LX2 Robusto Cigar Review

This is my first review from the cigars I got while at the 2008 IPCPR Trade Show in Las Vegas. I figured I’d start with the CAO Lx2, since CAO’s new cigar is the one everyone wants to know about. The Lx2 is part of the x2 series from CAO which includes the Mx2 and the Cx2. I’ve heard some rumors that the Cx2 is going to be discontinued, but didn’t get a chance to confirm that.

Cigar Review: Punch Gran Cru Maduro Robusto

June 27, 2008

Punch Gran Cru Maduro Robusto

I seem to always go for the lesser known stuff lately, so I’m making an effort over the next couple of weeks to review a few of the easier recognized names in the cigar industry. I started it off last week with hitting up Padron and CAO, this week I’m taking a look at some of the different Punch Cigars out there. The first one on the list is the Punch Gran Cru Maduro.
