This is one of my favorite everyday smokes. I have never noted a problem with one, tops for consistency. Tis a beauty, with its oscuro wrapper chock full of thick veins.

Cigar Review: La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro No. 5

May 12, 2008

After my review of the La Gloria Cubana Wavell Natural, Jerry from Stogie Review commented that he couldn’t wait for my take on the Serie R.  So after work on Friday, I stopped as usual at my local cigar store and decided that I might as well pick one up.  After all, it’s never too early in my cigar reviewing career to start taking requests, right?

Cigar Review: Don Tomas Sun Grown

May 9, 2008

I chose the Don Tomas Sun Grown Robusto to review not for its incredible complexity, but because I found it to be my perfect grill gar. I’ll explain that statement later. This medium brown Honduran puro was released by General Cigar in August 2007 and consists of tobacco aged for three years. It’s not the best Sun Grown on the market, but for the money, its not too far away.

Cigar Review: Hoyo De Monterrey Dark Sumatra Noche

May 1, 2008

I was gifted one of these by my uncle and I can’t thank him enough. He turned me on to a nice cigar. Though the look of cigar says full strength, the smooth flavors of this cigar make it seem almost mild. This beautiful cigar is blended by Estelo Padrón. The Ecuadoran sun grown wrappers are aged in dried palm leaves. What this does for the flavor, I have no idea, but it obviously works.

Construction: This expertly crafted cigar is very firm with few veins rising from the wrapper. I felt no soft spots along its 6 1/2 inch frame. It has a nice, easy draw warning me to keep it slow and easy. This seems to be about an hour and a half smoke. I learned that to rush it makes for an unpleasant experience.

Cigar Review: La Gloria Cubana Wavell Natural

April 30, 2008

La Gloria Cubana is in General Cigar’s large brand of products, and this particular line is made in their factory in Miami.  I actually picked this up at a rolling event at my local cigar store–they had two of the rollers from the factory in Miami and were teaching customers how to roll the wrapper.  I learned from this experience that I shouldn’t quit my day job and move to the Dominican Republic–my rolling job was terrible.

Cigar Review: Punch Cafe Royal Maduro

April 28, 2008

After I finished smoking the Cafe Royal Maduro and looked at my notes I realized I wasn’t sure what I smoked. General Cigar’s website wasn’t a huge help, so it was a great excuse to run down to the The Party Source and find out.

La Gloria Cubana Reserva Figurado Maduro Cigar Review

February 7, 2008

The Reserva Figurado Series of La Gloria Cubana are a limited edition with only a certain amount released each year. These cigars are aged in special cedar bins for six months and another three months in their boxes prior to shipping. The cigar is hefty cigar for its size and is a bit rougher looking, but that’s common for a Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper. Overall I’m impressed with the construction, a good weight and easy draw.
