An Interview with Pete Johnson

On 5/28/08 my daughter and I ventured up to Hollywood, CA to interview Pete Johnson, creator of the Tatuaje line of cigars. Located on the famous Sunset Strip, we joined Pete at his shop for an intriguing and entertaining 3 ½ hour interview!
Pete is definitely a class act! Very humble, very modest. During our time together, we smoked a Tatuaje Black Robusto, and the new Tatuaje La Riqueza Lonsdale (I was only the second person to smoke a banded one!!). He even walked out several times to keep our parking meter happy!
Here is our interview (note: we discussed his rock band days in length – to the extent that my daughter, also a bass player, wrote her own interview entitled, “Pete Johnson: The Rock Band before the Cigar Band”).
Cabaiguan Guapos - Cigar Links Edition 17
Sunday, June 8th, 2008Well since Jeff and I both smoked the Cabaiguan Guapos I just as well do a round up. The Tatuaje Cabaiguan Guapos is a limited release of the Cabaiguan with an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper instead of an Ecuadorian Shade Grown Wrapper. Jeff smoked the Guapos and I tried the Guapos 46, both of us loved these cigars so get these while you can.

At least, I haven’t been able to find them…. I got a fiver in a box split last September. Based on prior comments, I let them sit a while….

I thought I’d start venturing into reviewing more cigars from Tatuaje. Little did I know that the one I choose is a Limited Edition. The Cabaiguan Guapos line is similar to the regular Cabaiguan line except it replaced the Shade Grown Wrapper with a Sun Grown Wrapper. The name Cabaiguan is the home town of Don Pepin Garcia, who produces the Tatuaje Cigars for Pete Johnson.

Saturday, March 29th, 2008Pete Johnson is a genius. There’s no doubt in my mind that Mr. Tattoo is by far one of the most smartest, talented and too smooth for his own good, cigar aficionados in the industry. Everything from naming to marketing his cigars, is in a league of its own.
